On November 10th, the Global South Study Center, an academic research and practice base established by the International Communication Research Institute of East China Normal University and Rongjiang County, held its opening ceremony in Toutang Village, Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province.
As part of the ceremony, the Field China Workshop was officially unveiled — an international research and communication project co-founded by the Global South Academic Forum, Shanghai Media Group International, and Rongjiang County. The initiative aims to strengthen academic exchange and global dialogue on rural development, and to bring the story of a vibrant rural China to the world stage.
The bilingual documentary TOP Destination—Village Super League, produced by SMG International, premiered during the event. Told through the eyes of international observers, it captures Rongjiang’s 28-day journey of “pause, rescue, and restart” during a once-in-a-century flood, showcasing the resilience and unity of China’s rural communities.
During a 3-day tour, international scholars and delegates conducted a series of visits to several villages and local institutions in Rongjiang, including Yuezhai Village in Guzhou Town and Lexiang Village in Zhongcheng Town. They observed how new media, AI technology, ethnic culture, and local sports are contributing to rural revitalization.
