The Degree Committee of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education approved the PhD program of Journalism in 2010 and it enrolled students in 2011. This program inherits the practical tradition of ECNU and enjoys academic resources of arts to reflect the advantages of this subject. Our school has built the partnership with many domestic companies and universities to develop this program and has signed agreements about scientific cooperation and exchanges of students and teachers with foreign universities and institutions. Moreover, the School has also signed agreements with universities and enterprises of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan regions. Every year many teachers and students go abroad to study, visit, teach, and take part in international academic conferences. The PhD program of Journalism has a strong team of teachers with rich teaching experience. Besides, many teachers famous in journalism and communication field has been the backbone in journalism study of China.

The PhD program has the following specializations: Theory and Practice of Journalism, New Media and Media Management, Public Opinions of News and Crisis Dissemination, News Communication and Digital Industry, History of Journalism in China, Mass Media and Social Changes.

PhD Graduates can teach and research in universities and research institutions. They can work as journalists and editors in Television Station, Radio Station, Websites, Newspapers and Journals. They can also work in institutions of the Party and governments, publication institutions and large state-owned and private enterprises. They can also work in multinational enterprise to do jobs related to publicizing, advertising, brand and innovation. Many graduated has been the backbone in the journalist profession.
